Susan began writing almost as soon as she could hold a pencil. Her earliest career aspiration was to be an author, and she reached her first milestone at age six when her story, ‘On Mother’s Day’, was printed on the children’s page of the Sunday Telegraph. The prize—a hefty two dollars!
At ten, Susan was recruited by her teacher to help edit the first drafts of her classmates’ stories. She also took up the teacher’s challenge to produce a five-chapter, five-page manuscript, ‘The Mystery of Shadowy Waters,’ which was dutifully printed by the school receptionist and filed on the shelves of the primary library.
Susan’s creative spark flickered and smouldered under the rigours of essay writing in high school and university, only to revive in her late thirties when she began reading classics to her homeschooling children. It wasn’t until her forties that she launched into the world of writing for publication.
Susan wrote contributions for several works before starting on her own manuscript, Skinny Girl . This, her debut memoir, was a finalist in the 2022 Omega Writers CALEB awards. Later that year, Susan released 30 Days of Rest for Mothers, a devotional that has brought new levels of calm to mums of all ages. She is now developing a hybrid memoir on marriage and a second devotional, 30 Days of Rest for Women.
As a speaker, Susan’s warmth and transparency offer hope and inspiration to her listeners. Her style is gentle and engaging and she is valued as a clear communicator.
Susan lives with her husband, Mark, in Hobart, Tasmania, where they help pastor a church. Their four children and two grandchildren are spread between Launceston, outer Sydney and the Gold Coast. To relax, Susan enjoys spending time outdoors with loved ones, swimming in the ocean, gardening, cooking and eating delicious, nourishing food (preferably outdoors), and curling up with a mug of herbal tea and a good book.
